9/18/97 - Plff, male age 61, truck driver. Plff drove a flatbed truck, delivering concrete barrier to a Forest Service project near the Sandy River. The government employee had the wrong kind of backhoe to remove the barrier. He requested assistance from Plff to attach chains around the barrier in order to lift them off the flatbed truck onto the ground. Another party was also nearby. Plff contended toward the end of the unloading, the Forest Service employee misoperated the backhoe, crushing parts of both Plff's hands against the barrier and knocking him off the flatbed truck to the ground.

Crush injuries to both hands, including a fractured right wrist and fractured left fifth finger. Injuries to right side, including right shoulder and face.
